The Corps of Engineers is responsible for reporting the conditions of Federally maintained navigation channels. The NY District performs periodic surveys throughout our geographic area of responsibility to determine channel conditions. This information is then reported to the US Coast Guard, the National Ocean Service and other government offices. The minimum controlling depths are shown by channel segments on standard forms, along with notes on the location of shoals and other critical information. Waterway users interested in channel conditions can refer to the most recent Reports of Channel Conditions that are provided below.

The New York District is in the process of converting the vertical datums used on its controlling depth reports and surveys from a local datum to the current epoch of MLLW (1983-2001).  This process will take several years to complete.  Mariners and other users of this information are advised to pay particular attention to the referenced datum.
