The Ramapo River, from Pompton Lake upstream to West Oakland Avenue, experiences frequent floods. In 1999, Tropical Storm Floyd caused approximately $5.3 million in municipal damages.

WORK IN PROGRESS

The overall project including the widening and deepening of the existing Ramapo River, creation of wetlands in Potash Lake, and the installation of flood control gates at the Pompton Lake Dam is complete. The completed project is operated and maintained by the project sponsor the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. APRIL 15-17 2007 Nor'easter: On July 19, 2007 and October 25, 2007 meetings were held in Wayne Township and Pompton Lakes, NJ to discuss the project operation during the nor'easter.
