New York District announces the availability of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment for the Fire Island to Montauk Point, New York, Coastal Storm Risk Management Nonstructural Pilot Program, and the opening of the window for the public to submit written comments.
The previous Environmental Impact Statement was published in 2020 and broadly assessed the nonstructural features of the recommended plan based on limited level of detail available at the time. The Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment was prepared as a supplement to the final Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate the significance of the potential environmental impacts of the nonstructural pilot program.
This program is the first Fire Island to Montauk Point nonstructural contract and additional Supplemental Environmental Assessments will be prepared for future nonstructural contracts as needed.
Comments received by Friday, 3 October 2025 regarding the Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment will assist in the agency’s evaluation of the nonstructural pilot program and will be reflected in the project record.
