Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Matthew D. Pride assumed duties as the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District in June 2020. The New York District is responsible for the Corps’ water resource development, navigation, and regulatory activities in northeastern New Jersey, eastern and south-central New York State, including the New York Harbor and Long Island, and parts of Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. The District is also responsible for design and construction at Army and Air Force installations in New Jersey, New York, Virginia and overseas in Greenland.

LTC Matthew D. Pride is a native of New York City. Born and raised on Staten Island, LTC Pride left for the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York where he received his commission as a Corps of Engineer Officer and Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Geography in May of 2006.

LTC Pride obtained a Master of Science degree in the field of Engineering Management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in October 2012 and a Master of Military Art and Science with a discipline in Strategic Studies from the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. in 2017.

His military education includes Engineer Officer Basic Course (EOBC), Engineer Captain’s Career Course (ECCC), and resident Command and General Staff College (CGSC).

Prior to reporting to the New York District, LTC Pride served three years assigned to the 4th Cavalry Multifunctional Training Brigade, First Army Division (East) at Fort Knox Kentucky as Brigade Executive Officer, Brigade Operations Officer, and a Battalion Executive Officer for the 1-410th Brigade Engineer Battalion.

His previous assignments include serving as OC/T and Lead Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE) Planner for the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) at Hohenfels, Germany; Commander, HHC, 555th Engineer Brigade in Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan; Commander, HHC, U.S. Army Garrison at West Point, New York; Minority Outreach Officer for the Directorate of Admissions for the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; Company Executive Officer, HHC, 94th Engineer Battalion in Mosul, Iraq and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; and Platoon Leader, Second Platoon, 103rd Horizontal Engineer Company, 94th Engineer Battalion in Tikrit, Iraq and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

LTC Pride’s deployments include General Engineering Support to Multinational Division – Northern Iraq, serving at FOB Warhorse, FOB Speicher, and FOB Diamondback-Marez from October 2007 to December 2008; and Theater Engineer Brigade for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), headquartered at Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan from January to October 2013.

LTC Pride’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Meritorious Service Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

LTC Pride is married to his wife, Christina, and together have five children.
