DESCRIPTION: The project provides for an entrance channel 8 feet deep, 150 feet wide, and approximately 2,500 feet long, from the minus 8-foot contour in Sandy Hook Bay to the entrance of the small boat harbor basin at Leonardo, Monmouth County, NJ.

AUTHORIZATION: House Document Doc. 108, 81st Congress, 1st Session. Authorized and approved by Rivers and Harbors Act March 2, 1945 and May 17, 1950.

COMMERCE: Provides safe navigation to recreational and commercial marine interests.

BACKGROUND: The last maintenance dredging cycle was performed in FY2015 and approximately 38,000 cubic yards of dredging material was removed and placed in a local upland confined disposal facility.

STATUS: During FY22, funding will provide for commonly performed Operation & Maintenance (O&M) work including monitoring of the channel shoaling conditions, coordination with the users and stakeholders and production of an annual hydrographic condition survey, and publication of the Controlling Depth Report on the District’s website below, is also scheduled for FY2022.  (https://www.nan.usace.army.mil/Missions/Navigation/Controlling-Depth-Reports/
