This rapid approach is based on the Hydrogeomorphic (HGM) approach to assess palustrine wetlands within the State of New York. This method utilizes established approaches to:
(1) characterize regional wetlands
(2) provide the rationale used to determine assessment scores
(3) describe assessment variables utilized
(4) outline the assessment equations
(5) provide a step-by-step protocol for collecting the data to be used in the assessment.
The State of New York is comprised of a wide variety of landforms that exhibit mountains, rolling hills, plateaus, valleys, along with numerous lakes, streams, rivers and coastal areas associated with the Great Lakes. As a result, the assessment developed utilizes an approach the incorporates both on-site data collection and off-site review of desktop resources.
