The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District’s Drift Collection Vessel Driftmaster recovered a downed helicopter involved in yesterday’s incident on the Hudson River.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District’s Drift Collection Vessel Driftmaster and Survey Vessel Dobrin, recovered the helicopter involved in yesterday’s incident on the Hudson River. USACE, collaborating with its partners at New York City Police Department Harbor Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, New York City Fire Department and New Jersey State Police, was able to remove the helicopter and safely transport it to the District’s CavenPoint Marine Terminal facility, where it will be secured for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other federal and local partners investigating the crash.

"The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, would like to extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy,” said Col. Alex Young, commander, USACE, New York District. “We will continue to keep them in our prayers as we work with our partners at every level to determine the facts regarding this situation.”

In addition to the recovery operation, USACE survey vessels are actively patrolling the area to identify and collect any remaining debris. These actions are critical to maintaining safe navigation in the harbor and ensuring all wreckage is properly managed. USACE, New York District, performs these roles as part of its year-round drift collection mission, which is dedicated to keeping the waterways of the tri-state area free from hazards and debris that could compromise safe navigation.

USACE remains committed to supporting its partners and protecting public safety in the Port of New York and New Jersey.
