  • Champlain Canal Barrier Feasibility Study Targets Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention

    Grand Isle, VT– The Lake Champlain Basin Program and New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), announce that an agreement has been signed to determine how best to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species within the Champlain Canal. The agreement is between the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission and the US Army Corps of Engineers with matching funds provided by the Lake Champlain Basin Program with support from Senator Patrick Leahy and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

    NEW JERSEY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, announces the availability of the Draft Integrated Hurricane Sandy General Reevaluation Report/Environmental Assessment (HSGRR/EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Passaic Tidal Protection Area Coastal Storm Risk Management Study is available for a 30-day public review ending October 29, 2017.
  • Col. Asbery takes command of New York Engineer District

    NEW YORK – Colonel Thomas D. Asbery assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, during a formal change of command ceremony on June 8, 2017. Colonel David A. Caldwell, who has commanded the district since June 2015, relinquished command at a ceremony held at Castle Williams on Governor’s Island. Colonel Asbery was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in May 1994, after graduating from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science in Architecture - Construction Management degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
  • Army Corps announces availability of the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report/Environmental Assessment for the Rahway River Coastal Storm Risk Management Study

    NEW JERSEY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, announces the availability of the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report/Environmental Assessment for the Rahway River Coastal Storm Risk Management Study and the opening of the 30-day public comment period on the report. The public comment period concludes on June 30, 2017.
  • President's Fiscal 2018 Budget for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program released

    Washington (May 25, 2017) - The President’s Budget for fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018) includes $5.002 billion in gross discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). "The fiscal 2018 Civil Works budget for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reflects the administration's priorities to support and improve the nation's economy and infrastructure, and to protect the American people," said Mr. Doug Lamont, senior official performing the duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. "This Budget supports the core mission areas of coastal and inland navigation, reducing flood risks from riverine flooding and along our coasts, and restoring aquatic ecosystems.”
  • Army Corps Announces Public Meetings for the Nassau County Back Bays, NY Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New York District, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), and Nassau County will host two scoping meetings for the Nassau County Back Bays, NY Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study. The meetings are being held pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The purpose of the Nassau County Back Bays feasibility study is to investigate potential solutions to coastal storm flood damage along the back bays of Nassau County, NY. This includes but is not limited to municipalities in the Town of Hempstead and Town of Oyster Bay located within southern Nassau County, as well as the City of Long Beach.

    NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District in partnership with non-federal sponsors (including Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, Westchester County Department of Planning) announces three public information meetings on April 6th, 19th and 25th to discuss the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment (FR/EA) for the Hudson Raritan Estuary Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study which also includes:
  • USACE Releases Hudson-Raritan Estuary Feasibility Report

    NEW YORK, NY (March 6, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, announces the availability of Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment (Draft FR/EA) and the opening of a 45-day review period for the public to submit written comments for the Hudson-Raritan Estuary (HRE) Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study. The Draft FR/EA addresses the impacts associated with implementation of ecosystem restoration actions within the HRE Study Area defined as a 25-mile radius of the Statue of Liberty National Monument.
  • Army Corps extends comment period for the Draft Rahway River Basin Feasibility Study

    NEW JERSEY – The U.S Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) announces the extension of the review period for the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report (DIFR) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Rahway River Flood Risk Management Study for an additional 15 days. A notice of availability for the DIFR and EIS was published in the December 9, 2016 issue of the Federal Register.
