NEW YORK – The Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet stabilization project remains a high priority for the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. The agencies are continuing to work together to expedite implementation of this large-scale and complex project.

Over the past two days representatives from the Department of the Interior and USACE have reached agreement on project refinements that meet the objectives of coastal storm risk reduction and environmental protection, allowing for the completion of the Draft Environmental Assessment for the project.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District anticipates releasing the Draft Environmental Assessment in early March for public review, which will include further project details.
