U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Draft Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment for Asharoken Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study now available

Public comment period has been extended until January 29, 2016

NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), announces the release of the Draft Feasibility Report for the North Shore of Long Island, Asharoken, Suffolk County, NY, Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study and Environmental Assessment.

With passage of the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013 (PL 113-2), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the authority and funding to complete ongoing coastal storm damage risk management projects and studies in the Northeast, including Asharoken. This Draft Environmental Assessment was prepared to evaluate the significance of potential environmental impacts of the proposed action and determine if the proposed project warrants the preparation of an environmental impact statement. Comments received by January 29, 2016 will assist in the agency’s evaluation of the project changes and will be reflected in the project record.

Representatives from the New York District and NYSDEC will be available to discuss the proposed project at a public information meeting on December 9, 2015 that will be held at Northport High School, 154 Laurel Hill Rd, Northport, LI, 11768 from 6-10 PM.
