  • Five Long Island Inlet Dredging Projects Completed Entering Summer

    NEW YORK —The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the recent completion of dredging in five south shore inlets. The projects have all been dual-purposed, restoring safe depths for navigation, and beneficially using all dredged sands for coastal storm risk resiliency and environmental restoration. The five inlets, all dredged since last fall are East Rockaway Inlet, Jones Inlet, Fire Island Inlet, Moriches Inlet and Shinnecock Inlet. Taken together, the dredging activities removed over a million cubic yards of sand, all of which was placed on adjacent beaches or into the literal drift system.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, announces the second contract award for the major coastal-storm risk management project known as the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Project. The $24,498,050 contract was awarded to Lake Dredge and Dock Company LLC, of Houston, TX.
  • Army Corps, Officials Kick Off Construction for Major Flood Risk Management Project on Long Island

    Earlier today, leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, gathered with elected officials and project partners at Fire Island Lighthouse, Bay Shore, NY, where an official ceremony kicked off commencement of construction for a major coastal-storm risk-management project. The Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Project will reduce flood risk for Long Islanders along vulnerable areas of 83 miles of coastline in Suffolk County from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point. This comprehensive, $1.7 billion project includes a variety of features to reduce coastal flood risks.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Announces Contract Award for Fire Island to Montauk Point Coastal-Storm Risk-Management Project

    NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, today announced a contract award of $47,469,180 to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC, of Houston, TX, for the first contract of the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Coastal-Storm Risk-Management Project. Work under the initial contract will reduce flood risk for vulnerable areas along an 83-mile stretch of Long Island’s barrier islands and back-bay communities from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point.
  • Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Project Public Meetings Scheduled

    NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, announces a series of public meetings in Suffolk County, NY, in September to provide information and discuss the Draft General Re-evaluation Report and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point, NY (FIMP), Coastal Storm Risk Management Project. The public comment period has been extended until October 19 to provide residents greater opportunity for feedback.
