The permit applicant, Suffolk County Department of Public Works, has requested Department of the Army authorization to perform dredging with ten-year maintenance with placement of all resultant dredged material at designated beach placement areas. The project is located at Cedar Beach Creek at Little Peconic Bay; and the Little Peconic Bay shorelines both east and west of the Cedar Beach Creek inlet to Little Peconic Bay; all located at the Great Hog Neck peninsula, Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York.  The stated purpose of this project is to provide safe navigation for recreational marine vessels transiting between Cedar Beach Harbor and Little Peconic Bay as well as to provide sand nourishment for the Little Peconic Bay shoreline for erosion and flood protection.  A previous DA permit (NAN-2007-00282) for ten-year maintenance dredging for the same dredge and placement areas was issued to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works on September 12, 2007, with an expiration date of September 12, 2017.
