The applicant, Suffolk County Department of Public Works, has requested Department of the Army (DA) authorization to perform dredging, with ten-years maintenance, with placement of all resultant dredged material at designated beach placement areas. The project is located in Cold Spring Pond and Great Peconic Bay; and the Great Peconic Bay shorelines northeast and southwest of the Cold Spring Pond inlet to Great Peconic Bay; all located in the Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, New York.
The stated purpose of this project is to provide safe navigation for marine vessels transiting between Cold Spring Pond and Great Peconic Bay as well as to provide sand nourishment for the Great Peconic Bay shoreline for erosion and flood protection.
