  • Army Corps of Engineers and New York City Mayor Announce Beginning of Process to Dredge East Rockaway Inlet, Paving the Way for Beach Re-Nourishment in the Rockaways

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced that a USACE contractor, Weeks Marine has begun moving work vessels, pipe, and other equipment to perform maintenance dredging of East Rockaway Inlet to beneficially use dredged sand to re-nourish and restore Rockaway beach between Beach 92nd Street and Beach 103rd Street.

  • Army Corps Completes Emergency Dredging

    NEW YORK –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, has completed contracted emergency dredging of an interim 200-foot-wide deep-water passage of ten feet through the highly dynamic Moriches Inlet. This out-of-cycle emergency work was done to remove the hazardous sand shoals that were closing the inlet and preventing U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue vessels from using the inlet to respond to lifesaving missions within Moriches Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, following a series of four unusual Nor’easter storms in March of 2018.

    NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection announces the approval of a waiver to increase the schedule and funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' New York and New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Coastal Storm Risk Management Study (NY&NJHAT).
