Experience, teamwork Aide Emergency Response to Pacific Ocean Super Typhoon

Army Corps Builds Combination of Features to Withstand Force of Atlantic
Work continues on the District’s Fire Island to Moriches Inlet (FIMI) coastal-storm risk reduction project on Fire Island in Suffolk County repairing a 19-mile stretch of coastline from erosion and damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The $281 million project includes placing seven million cubic yards of sand, demolishing nearly 50 structures, installing more than 40 vehicle and pedestrian crossovers for beach access, building several miles of dunes with plantings, and relocating a water line. FIMI is 100 percent funded through the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013 (PL 113-2) repairing damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Army Corps begins phase 2 of Shore Risk Reduction Project
The Long Beach community along the south shore of Long Island, N.Y. like so many others, experienced beach erosion as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The Army Corps' New York District is now in the process of increasing resiliency at the Coastal Storm Risk Reduction Project along the shore of Long Beach with the commencement of Phase 2 -- an essential phase of the overall shore protection project.

Milestone epitomizes important step forward for Troy Lock and Dam
Along the Hudson River in upstate New York, the Troy Lock and Dam in Troy, N.Y. serves as the eastern gateway to New York State's extensive canal system and integral to the viability of a system that consists of 524 miles of waterways and 56 locks. The Army Corps has operated the lock and dam since its construction and involved making major and minor repairs to the lock and dam structures, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems, as well as performing routine maintenance and maintaining the building and grounds.

Army Corps Vessel Participates in Parade of Ships
NEW YORK-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Drift Collection Vessel HAYWARD sailed alongside the wedge of U.S. Navy and Canadian surface combatants, Military Sealift ships, and U.S. Coast Guard vessels in the parade of ships that entered New York Harbor May 23rd to participate in Fleet Week 2018, a week-long event celebrating the maritime services. The ships transited the Anchorage Channel and sailed under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge mid-morning as onlookers lined the shores of Staten Island and Brooklyn, N.Y. and welcomed the fleet.
