Army Corps awards $2 million contract for Phase II of Plumb Beach coastal storm risk reduction work in Brooklyn

NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District has awarded a $2 million contract to Village Dock, Inc., of Port Jefferson, N.Y., to complete the second and final phase of construction at the coastal storm risk reduction project at Plumb Beach in Brooklyn along the Belt Parkway.

Corps awards Fire Island debris removal contract

The Corps awarded a Hurricane Sandy debris removal contract worth $8.8 million to DS3 Enterprises Inc. of Central Islip, N.Y. DS3 Enterprises Inc. will be tasked to remove debris from right-of-way and from eligible private property, transport it off the island, and dispose of it in a safe and environmentally sound manner. An estimated 2,200 homes sustained some form of damage from Hurricane Sandy, which impacted the area in October.

USACE receives three debris removal missions from FEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued three mission assignments for debris removal in New York and New Jersey to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in response to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. USACE crews were deployed Nov. 5 to begin clearing storm-damaged areas.

Col. Paul Owen takes command of New York Engineer District

Colonel Paul Owen assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, during a formal change of command ceremony on September 14, 2012. Colonel John R. Boulé, who commanded the district since July 2009, relinquished command during the event in the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House.
