  • USACE & USMMA Announce Start of Programmatic Environmental Assessment

    NEW YORK – The Maritime Administration (MARAD) announces the preparation of a Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) for the USMMA Campus Modernization Plan (CMP). The PEA is being prepared by the Department of Transportation (USDOT), MARAD, the lead agency, in cooperation with the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), the involved agency, pursuant to National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and in accordance with USDOT 5601.1D “Procedures for Considering Environmental Impacts." 
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Department of Transportation break ground on U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Hague Basin Dredging Project

    NEW YORK –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, and the U.S. Department of Transportation recently broke ground on a critical maintenance dredging project in the Hague Basin at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). The $12.9M job, which was awarded to Breakwater Marine LLC, involves removing approximately 51,000 cubic yards of sediment and deepening the basin to 15 feet at the entrance and 12 feet along the interior.
