New York District Contributes to New York State Hurricane Evacuation Study

New York, NY - A comprehensive New York State (NYS) Hurricane Evacuation Study is being conducted by a partnership between the National Hurricane Program, the Army Corps, FEMA, NOAA's National Hurricane Center, and the State of New York. The study aims to provide data, resources, and technical assistance for hurricane evacuation planning and response for state, local, tribal, territorial, and federal government partners.

ASA for Civil Works Visits New York District

The Honorable Michael L. Connor, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), visited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, Feb. 13-14. Connor serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of the Army on all matters related to the Army’s Civil Works Program. During the visit the Connor was able to meet with district leadership, project managers and tour several ongoing projects that New York District oversees.

Innovative Structure Provides Uninterrupted Learning for West Point Cadets

Over the past few months, visitors to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York may have noticed construction on a large, white domed structure that sits behind the campus baseball field, next to the library. This 20,000-square-foot temporary facility, known as the General Instruction Building Swing Space, will provide professors and cadets with office and study space while surrounding buildings are being renovated.

Army Corps Reduces Flood Risk for Green Brook, NJ Residents

On August 2, 1973, heavy rain overflowed the banks of the Green Brook, a tributary of the Raritan River in central New Jersey. The flooding killed six people and turned streets into rivers, submerging cars and filling basements with water. When the floodwaters receded, they revealed millions of dollars’ worth of damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
