Army Corps Completes Bedrock Removal in the Kill Van Kull Channel
Container Ship Transits the Kill Van Kull Channel. Dredging work to remove bedrock to ease a bend in the Kill Van Kull Channel was successfully completed August 17th. The work was performed for the purpose of enhancing navigational safety and required removal of bedrock through drilling and underwater blasting on the northern side of the Kill Van Kull off of Bayonne, N.J.

Top Army Civil Works Leaders Visit New York City Coastal Projects
Lt. Gen. Thomas Bostick, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/Chief of Engineers and Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (for Civil Works) visited New York City and observed USACE coastal projects aimed at restoring coastal storm risk reduction projects due to Hurricane Sandy.

Army Corps begins Post-Sandy restoration work on Rockaway Beach
On August 15, representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District and New York City announced the beginning of sand replenishment efforts at Rockaway Beach. Crews are busy placing millions of cubic yards of sand as part of the Corps efforts to repair and restore the Rockaway coastline which was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Crews are busy placing millions of cubic yards along the Atlantic coast of northern New Jersey as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District’s efforts to repair and restore the Sea Bright to Manasquan beach erosion control and coastal storm risk reduction project.
