Col. Eric Swenson Takes Command of Army Corps’ New York District

Col. Eric Swenson assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, during a formal Change of Command ceremony July 15 at Caven Point Marine Terminal in Jersey City, New Jersey, the District’s floating plant. Col. Alexander Young, leading the District for the past three years, relinquished command during the event.

Army Corps Work at Downtown Montauk Improves Beach Access, Reduces Maintenance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, recently completed removing damaged wooden cross-overs to the beach at Downtown Montauk on Eastern Long Island, replacing them with new sand paths for public access as part of the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Project reducing flood risk along 83 miles of low-lying coastline from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point. The cross-overs were damaged by a series of severe storms in recent years.

Army Corps, Town of East Hampton Deepen Channel on Eastern Long Island

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, in conjunction with the Town of East Hampton, recently completed dredging the channel at Lake Montauk Harbor ⎼ a heavily-trafficked waterway on Eastern Long Island ⎼ increasing its depth from -12 to approximately -17 feet.

New York District Prepares New York Harbor for America's 250th Independence Day Celebration

NEW YORK — As the nation celebrated Independence Day and America's 250th Anniversary, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District welcomed Lee Forsgren, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), aboard the Drift Collection Vessel HAYWARD for a harbor inspection highlighting the critical Civil Works mission that supports the nation's waterways.
